Protective Style Review: Micro Braids on Fine Hair
Happy Monday Curlfriends! đź’›
Welcome to a new day, a new week, and a new post from Fine Natural Hair ROCKS! Today, we’ll be reviewing these “protective” micro braids on my fine natural hair:
As we fine naturals know, fine natural hair hates being manipulated and loves to be left alone. Therefore, in theory, micro braids on fine natural hair should be a match made in heaven. Unfortunately however, this is not the case.
While this micro braid set was absolutely stunning aesthetically and so easy to maintain during my vacation to Jamaica, it simply was not conducive to my ultimate length retention goals. The installation of these micro braids was difficult and stressful for my fine strands; especially since the parts need to be super small. In addition to the difficult installation, these micro braids were also very challenging to take down. I noticed tons of breakage in addition to the normal amount of shed hairs.
In conclusion, I would not recommend using micro braids as a protective style for your fine natural hair. It is a beautiful style to install and rock, however it simply will not help you achieve your length retention goals. A much better alternative for fine natural hair is box braids.
Until next time, Xx!
